Stefan H. Schalch graduated with a PhD in law with honours from the University of Zurich in Switzerland in 1990 where he also worked as an academic assistant. His doctoral thesis was a groundbreaking analysis of the then new timeshare holiday product from a legal point of view. He completed his international studies at Emmanuel College, University of Cambridge, where he obtained his LL.M. degree in European and Commercial Law in 1994.

Stefan was admitted to the Bar in the Canton of Zurich in 1991. Stefan gained his first professional experience as a clerk in various Swiss courts, notably in the Commercial Division of the Supreme Court in the Canton of Zurich.

Stefan joined a leading London City law firm in 1994 before returning to Zurich, joining Lutz Rechtsanwälte 1995 as an associate and becoming a partner in 1999. He is a member of the Zurich and Swiss Bar Association and member of various legal profession societies. He is also member of the Swiss Arbitration Association (ASA), the Legislative Council of the Organisation for Timeshare in Europe (OTE) and President of Cantab Law Masters.

His main areas of practice include contract, corporate and commercial law, competition and employment law, timeshare, travel and tourism law, hotel law and real estate, energy and telecommunication law, wills including estate planning as well as commercial litigation and arbitration.
